YCDSB Student Awarded Prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarship

The York Catholic District School Board is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Farhad Sadig, a student from St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School in Aurora. Farhad has been named a 2026 Schulich Leader and awarded an impressive $120,000 scholarship to attend the University of Toronto this fall.

The Schulich Leader Scholarship is recognized as one of Canada’s most prestigious undergraduate STEM scholarships. It honours exceptional students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Farhad now joins an esteemed national network of Schulich Leaders, which brings together some of the brightest and most promising young minds in the country.

Farhad will be pursuing Electrical Engineering at the University of Toronto, taking the next step toward his long-term goal of becoming a tech founder. With his passion for building technology that creates real impact, Farhad hopes to help drive the next generation of innovation in the technology sector.

Farhad’s remarkable achievement reflects his strong commitment to academic excellence, leadership and innovation, as well as his passion for STEM. As an Honour Roll student and First Vice President of the York Student Catholic Presidents’ Council (YSCPC), he has made a meaningful impact within the St. Maximilian Kolbe community. Through his curiosity and dedication to learning, Farhad has become a role model for his peers and an inspiring example of what students can accomplish when they strive to reach their full potential. 

Beyond the classroom, Farhad has a deep interest in technology, entrepreneurship and venture capital. He is passionate about leadership and values the opportunity to connect with others and exchange ideas. These interests have helped shape his future goals and continue to inspire his vision of becoming a tech founder and creating meaningful innovation. 

Reflecting on his time at St. Maximilian Kolbe, Farhad shared:
“Throughout my time at St. Max, I have pushed to always seek opportunities to reach my best potential. As John D. Rockefeller once said, ‘Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.’ That is the mindset that defined my time here and shaped the path I’m now pursuing.”

Principal Michelle Miranda praised Farhad’s accomplishments, saying:
“As a school community, we are incredibly proud of Farhad and his achievements both at school and beyond. Farhad is an Honour Roll student, 1st Vice President of YSCPC and an all-around
